Background

01. Context

Modernizing a complex hospital management experience

HIMS (Hospital Information Management System) is a SaaS platform designed to help hospitals manage critical day-to-day operations, patient information, appointments, admissions, and clinical workflows from one centralized system.

The existing experience contained a large amount of information and complex workflows, making it difficult for hospital staff to quickly find what they needed and complete routine tasks efficiently.

The goal was to create a cleaner, more structured interface that could handle complex hospital data without making the experience feel overwhelming.

02. The problem

Making complex hospital workflows easier to understand and manage.

Hospital staff work with large amounts of information throughout the day. The existing interface made important information difficult to scan, while dense layouts and inconsistent navigation increased the effort required to complete everyday tasks.

The challenge was to simplify the experience without removing the depth of information required by different hospital roles.

Key challenges:

  • Large amounts of patient and operational data needed to remain accessible.

  • Complex workflows needed to become easier to navigate.

  • Important statuses and actions needed stronger visual hierarchy.

  • Different modules needed to feel consistent with one another.

  • The interface needed to support fast, repeated daily tasks.

  • The system needed to be scalable as new modules and workflows were introduced.

Designing a scalable system for complex healthcare workflows.

I worked on the UX/UI design of the HIMS platform, focusing on simplifying complex workflows and creating a consistent visual language across the product.

My responsibilities included:

05. Key design decisions

01 — Information hierarchy over information overload.

Hospital systems contain a lot of information, but not every piece of information has the same priority.

We introduced stronger hierarchy through typography, spacing, grouping, and visual states so users could quickly understand what was important without removing useful data.

02 — Design for repeated workflows.

Many hospital tasks are performed repeatedly throughout the day.

Instead of designing interactions only for first-time use, the interface was structured to make common actions predictable and easy to access.

03 — Status should be immediately visible.

Patient and operational statuses often determine what users need to do next.

Clear status indicators, labels, and visual states were introduced so users could understand the current state of a record without opening multiple screens.

04 — Consistency across modules.

The platform contains multiple workflows and modules, but users should not have to relearn the interface every time they move between them.

Reusable components and consistent interaction patterns created a more familiar experience across the system.

05 — Build a system, not just screens.

The product needed to continue growing, so the design focused on reusable components, patterns, and visual rules that could support future modules and features.

06. Outcome

A clearer interface for complex hospital operations.

The redesigned HIMS experience brings structure and clarity to information-heavy hospital workflows while maintaining the depth required by medical and administrative teams.
